What are stouts and porters?
Stouts and porters are dark beers built on roasted malts — which give them those familiar notes of coffee, chocolate, caramel and toasted grain.
They’re closely related styles, with plenty of overlap. In general, stouts tend to lean a bit roastier and fuller, while porters can come across smoother and slightly lighter — but the line between them isn’t strict.
What matters more is how they drink.
Some are soft and easy.
Some are rich and dessert-like.
Some are bold, high-ABV and meant for slow sipping.
